Occasional Care

Our fully equipped occasional care facility at Coburg Leisure Centre is designed to assist parents and guardians in pursuing their recreational and fitness interests with the peace of mind of knowing that your child is being taken care of in a safe, supportive, well equipped environment.

Overseen by fully qualified occasional care staff, our occasional care facility operates for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. This service is available to our members and casual visitors, simply book your child's spot at by speaking to a Guest Experience Officer or an Educator. Alternatively, please contact the centre on (03) 9354 3504.

Facilities: Our Occasional Care facilities have a range of equipment and our program is designed to meet the children's individual and group needs according to their age and stage of development.

The fortnightly educational program implemented, assists in further developing a child's physical, social, emotional, creative, language and cognitive skills.

A range of activities and experiences will provide your children with an interactive and safe space to assist parents and guardians in pursuing their recreational and fitness interests in centre.

Session Times: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 12:30pm. Closed Public Holidays and over the Christmas and New Year Holiday period.

Ages: Six weeks old to five years of age. Children over the age of six can attend but are restricted to the minimum times offered.

Enrolment: An enrolment must be completed prior to your child's first visit to our occasional care facility. The information as part of the enrolment authorises occasional care staff to act in case of emergency and gives the centre important information regarding medical issues, allergies or custody details. Your child's safety is our highest concern.

Policies and procedures

We ask that you prepare the following for each child attending care:

  • A nutritious snack in a clearly labelled container (nuts, nut products, lollies and chips are not permitted)
  • A drink (clearly labelled)
  • Nappies if required (please ensure your child arrives in a clean nappy)
  • A change of clothes if your child is in nappies or being toilet trained
  • A hat and sun screen, which must be worn while your child is outside, regardless of weather conditions.

Where emergency care is required, the parent or guardian will be notified immediately. If a parent or guardian is unable to be contacted, staff will follow procedures outlined in the enrolment form and will undertake any necessary action.

To maintain the best quality environment for all children, we ask that ill children be kept at home. Staff are permitted to refuse entry to any child showing signs of illness.

Coburg Leisure Centre Occasional Care follows the 'No Jab, No Play' legislation which came into effect from 1 January 2016.

All parents and guardians wanting to enrol their child into a occasional care service are required to provide evidence that their child is:

  • Fully immunised for their age;
  • On a vaccination catch-up program, or;
  • Unable to be fully immunised for medical reasons.
  • 'Conscientious objection' is not an exemption.

For more information, visit the No Jab, No Play website.

Parents are encouraged to visit the centre with your child before starting care – we request that visits are kept to a maximum of 10 minutes to assist educators in maintaining a duty of care to the children booked in. Visits may need to be scheduled to support the staff:child ratios policy in place.

An orientation visit is encouraged to be a booked visit where parent/guardian assists with a 10-15 minute transitional drop off.

Parent/Guardians are encouraged to keep the first visit for the child at the minimum 1.5 hour in-centre booking. We encourage you to remain close-by (preferably on-site) to be a support to educators if required.

We strive to assist families to feel comfortable in leaving their child/ren in our care and we would like to take the extra steps needed to assist with the transition. We have found this transition and orientation process to be a positive experience for both child and parent, giving you both time to familiarise yourselves with staff and the environment.

To ensure their safety, all children must be signed in and out of children’s services by a parent or guardian without exception. Please be punctual when picking up your child as a late fee will apply if you arrive late. If your child / children are to be picked up by another family member or friend, staff must be notified of the arrangements.

A 24-hour cancellation policy applies. This requires parents / guardians to make any cancellations by 9:00am the day prior to your booking. This will assist the process of booking children that are on the waitlist and allow us to give parents / guardians advanced notice for these bookings. Any cancellations after 9:00am the day prior or NO-SHOWS to your session may be charged. However, if the cancellation is due to medical reasons, and a medical certificate is provided, no fees will be charged.

We are a nut free centre, and for the safety and wellbeing of all the children we ask that all nut and nut based products not be brought into our occasional care room (including Nutella, peanut butter and muesli bars).
