Active Merri-bek runs a variety of recreational facilities across the City of Merri-bek. Six of our centres are run by the Y and have swim facilities, with four of these centres having fitness classes and gyms.
About Active Merri-bek
Active Merri-bek is an initiative developed by Merri-bek City Council to make it easier for more people to be more active more often.
Active Merri-bek has four key goal areas:
- active people: targeting people who are least likely to participate and encouraging lifelong participation for better health and wellbeing;
- active opportunities: supporting people to access quality opportunities that meet individual needs;
- active places: developing suitable infrastructure to support participation;
- active together: working with others to support the development of and provision of opportunities.

Active Merri-bek centres are owned by Merri-bek City Council and managed by YMCA Victoria. At the Y, we understand the needs of our members and visitors. We work with a number of community, sports and government bodies to offer opportunities for all our participants. YMCA is the leader in community and recreation facility management. We aim to provide the best in community care and services.
YMCA Open Doors – financial assistance
YMCA Victoria helps local people in need become healthier, happier and more connected to their community. We focus on positive change and believe that everybody has a right to equal access to physical, mental and social well-being.
While hundreds of thousands of Victorians access YMCA programs or services on a weekly basis, we are concerned about the vast number who cannot due to their social and economic situations.
