This membership is tailored towards young people. You can choose one of our centres and access the following membership benefits at that centre.

Our Active Youth program encourages kids between the ages of 12 and 17 to get active and stay that way. Participants gain confidence and become healthier, happier and more comfortable with exercising. The healthy routines they learn and the knowledge they gain will serve them for the rest of their lives.

Active Youth participants can choose to take out a membership or pay for program classes on a casual basis. All classes and programs are supervised by qualified staff with verified Working with Children Checks. Our Active Youth program aims to establish exercise routines to keep teens healthy for life and avoid obesity, without the social or performance pressures of team based options and sport.

Youth membership holders aged 12 to 15 years are entitled to access group fitness classes with the exception of:

• Body Pump;
• Adrenaline HIT;
• Circuit classes;
• Boxing classes.

Youth membership holders aged 16 to 17 years old are entitled to access all group fitness classes available on our centres timetable.

Membership benefits

• Unlimited use of the gym at your chosen centre (including program planning session and exercise demonstration – parent or guardian must be present)
• Access to family friendly group fitness classes in your chosen centre's timetable (without a parent / guardian if an induction has been completed with a trainer)

The Active Merri-bek facilities support and encourage the Active Merri-bek community to be more active, more often. To support this, local businesses within Merri-bek may be eligible to set up corporate membership discounts for their employees with their local Active Merri-bek facility.

This membership allows you to access the following benefits:

• unlimited use of the gym at all Active Merri-bek facilities (including program planning session, exercise demonstration, health assessment and personalised program where relevant);
• access to all group fitness classes across the Active Merri-bek facilities;
• unlimited use of indoor and outdoor heated pools, spas, steam rooms and saunas at all Active Merri-bek facilities;
• complimentary locker.

To be eligible for a Corporate Membership, the organisation must:

• be based in Merri-bek;
• sign an Active Merri-bek Corporate Membership Agreement;
• received approval from the Centre Manager.

Those who are eligible for a Participation Support Membership can access a reduced or free centre-based membership.

To be eligible for a Participation Support Membership, you:

• must be referred by a support agency (a support agency must have a medical or wellbeing service element);
• must hold a valid health care card, pension card or have proof of Permanent Protection Visa (unless a child – then eligible for concession through their parent or guardian);
• must reside within Merri-bek.

Any further support provided after an initial three-month membership will be based on participants meeting the following criteria:

• attendance over the three-month period of an average of three sessions per fortnight;
• provision of an updated referral letter;
• meeting with a health club trainer to revise and update their program and goals;

A maximum of three Participation Support Memberships can be issued within a 12 month timeframe to the same person.

At Active Merri-bek, we're committed to equity, social justice and supporting people who are least likely or able to participate. That's why we offer a discounted (concession support) centre-based membership for eligible community members. 

To be eligible for a Concession Support Membership, you:

• must reside in Merri-bek;
• must either:
  • be seeking additional support following the expiry of Participation Support Membership and having met the terms and conditions of that membership including regular attendance;
  • be holders of a disability pension, companion card or special school card;
  • be referred by a support agency and show they are eligible for concession.

Support is available through a financial commitment made by the participant as per the concession support membership fees and charges (this equates to approximately 45% of a full membership). Three-month concession support memberships must be paid in full upon commencement.
